CINCINNATI - Adam Kunkel's step-back 3-pointer with time expiring pushed Xavier past Marquette, 91-88, on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center in Cincinnati.
Kunkel's triple came after Dawson Garcia blocked a Paul Scruggs shot with four seconds remaining. The junior transfer corralled the ball at the top of the key and dribbled to his left for the game winner.
Marquette trailed by four with 25 seconds remaining before Koby McEwen sunk a 3-pointer from the left wing and was fouled. McEwen hit the ensuing free throw to tie the game prior to the final Xavier possession.
The Golden Eagles (5-4) return to Milwaukee to host their final game before Christmas with a 6 p.m. Central time tip against Villanova at Fiserv Forum on Wednesday. Dec. 23.
