MU Takes Down Xavier, 61-48

MILWAUKEE—The Marquette University women's basketball team overcame a slow start and downed Xavier, 61-48 on Friday evening at the Al McGuire Center.

Senior Isabelle Spingola led the squad with 21 points for her third 20-plus point game of the season as sophomore Camryn Taylor racked up ten points and five boards. Senior Altia Anderson finished with eight points and pulled down a game-high eight boards.

After to a slow start in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles (19-6, 10-4) started to pull away in the second quarter with a 14-0 run led by Taylor's effort in the paint and Spingola from behind the arc.

MU attacked the boards and out-rebound the Musketeers, 44-30 with nearly every player in the game contributing at least two rebounds in the winning effort.

Marquette led Xavier (2-22, 1-12) by 11 points heading into halftime and withstood a third quarter surge from the Musketeers by outscoring the squad, 19-12 in the final frame.

The Golden Eagles finished the night shooting 39.3 percent (22-56) from the floor, led by Spingola's 45.5 percent (5-11) mark from behind the arc.

Ayanna Townsend led Xavier with 13 points and five rebounds, followed by A'riana Gray who tallied 12 points and seven rebounds.
