MU Set for BIG EAST Indoor Championships

The men's team placed second and the women's team placed third in 2019
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams begin the postseason portion of their indoor seasons this weekend in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute for the 2020 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships.

"We're really excited to get out to Geneva and let all our hard work show," MU head coach Bert Rogers said. "We've had an excellent indoor season and now it's about competing at the highest level in the postseason."
The men's team finished as the conference runner-up in each of the last five seasons, are in search of an evasive indoor conference title, while the women's squad looks to improve off their third place finish last year. The MU women won the indoor conference meet in both 2016 and 2017 but came up just four points shy of a third team title in 2018.

In total, eighteen Marquette University student-athletes earned 22 All-BIG EAST honors at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships last year.
In the sprints, freshman Julian Wright and junior Samuel Johnson will be contenders for BIG EAST titles in multiple events. They took the No. 1 and No. 2 overall marks in program history in the 60-meter dash at the John Tierney Classic on Jan. 18. Seniors Daniel Pederson and Ryan Burd headline the distance runners and will look to make noise in the 3000m and 5000m races.
On the women's side, departed senior Keely Knobbe won the weight throw (18.01 meters) to earn MU's only event title in 2019.

Junior Emma Moravec set a program record in the women's 800-meter run (2:09.60) on her way to a second place and All-BIG EAST finish.

Breanne Marchan (60m, long jump) and Allie Flando (shot put, weight throw) return this season as MU women to win multiple All-BIG EAST honors last season.
In the USTFCCCA's conference rating index, both the MU men and women enter the meet in first place in the BIG EAST.
Coverage of both days will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The broadcasts will start at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Sunday and 9 a.m. CT on Saturday and run though the entirety of each day's events.
Events begin Sunday with the women's pentathlon. Field events begin at 9 a.m. Central time with the men's pole vault while action on the track kicks off with the preliminary heats of the women's mile at 11:30 a.m. CT.

- Nicholas Quandt hit the school record in the pole vault (5.01 m/16-5.25 ft) at the Panther Tune-up (Feb. 22) in his season-debut for MU.
- Daniel Armstrong's high jump (2.22 m/7-3.25 ft) at the Panther Tune-Up (Feb. 22) moves his No. 2 all-time mark in program history up slightly.
- Imari Hurte's long jump of 7.15 m/23-5.5 ft at the Panther Tune-Up is No. 6 all-time in MU history.
- Madison Marko (8.95) moved up to No. 6 all-time and Juru Okwaramoi (9.00) improved on her PR of 9.05 to sit in eighth all-time in the 60m hurdles. Juru's time is the new freshman record.
- Julie Clayton set school and facility records with her PR in the pole vault (Jan. 18), winning the event with a height of 3.93 m/12-10.72 ft.Â
- Cameron Jemison hit the No. 7 all-time mark in program history in the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters/15 feet, 3 inches in the first meet of the season (Dec. 6).Â
- Freshman Julian Wright's record-breaking performance in the 400-meter dash highlighted the GVSU Big Meet as he broke the school record with a time of 48.24. Teammate and fellow freshman Zachariah Murray finished less than a half second behind him at 48.41 (No. 3 all-time).
- Julian Wright's 200m time (Feb. 14) of 21.92 is No. 4 in program history.
- Arianna Mansavage won the 400m at Iowa (Jan. 30) with a PR time of 56.11, the fourth-best all-time in MU indoor history. She's a two-time BIG EAST notable performer this year.Â
- Sophomore thrower Lizzy Cagle made the top-10 all-time at MU in the weight throw (17.39 m/57-0.75 ft) with her performance at Parkside (Feb. 8).Â
- Freshman Juru Okwaramoi (60-meter hurdles) ran a 9.17 in her collegiate debut, a time which landed her in ninth all-time in program history for the event.Â
- Joe Keys won the 60-meter hurdles at Milwaukee with a new PR of 8.25 (T-3rd all-time).Â
- Samuel Johnson (6.80) and Julian Wright (6.82) broke the school record in the 60-meter dash on their way to first and second place finishes (record was 6.84 by Josh Word). Daniel Bendel (6.86), who came in third, moves up to No. 4 in school history.Â
- Allie Flando took home wins in both the shot put (13.66 m/44-9.80 ft) and weight throw (17.33 m/56-10.25 ft) at the John Tierney Classic (Jan. 18).Â
- Mary Hanson (4:59.10) won the mile on Jan. 18 while Kate Jochims (5:04.37) and Caitlin McGauley (5:05.00) finished third and fourth, each setting PR's.Â
- Jefferson Osunkwo's triple jump of 13.90m/45-7.25 feet (Jan. 25) is a personal record and the No. 9 mark all-time at MU. Â
- Juru Okwaramoi's 60-meter hurdles time of 9.05 (Jan. 25) is No. 7 all-time at MU. Â
- Madison Marko's time of 9.15 in the 60-meter hurdles (Jan. 25) is No. 10 all-time. Her pentathlon score of 3,506 points is fourth all-time at MU.Â
- Joe Keys beat his heptathlon school record (Feb. 8) by over 300 points (5,667 points), a score that ranks him in the top-10 nationally this year.Â
- Daniel Pederson's time of 14:30.85 at the Meyo Invitational (Feb. 7) in the 5000m is No. 5 all-time at MU. He beat his previous PR by .03 seconds.Â
