Golden Eagles hosting Omaha at 6 p.m. CT in first dual match
The Marquette University men's tennis team will make its long-awaited return to the court on Friday, Jan. 22 when the team welcomes Omaha to Helfaer Tennis Stadium for the season opener.
First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT.
"It's been a long few months and there is still plenty of work to do, but our guys are extremely excited to get back on the court," head coach Steve Rodecap said.Ā "Every day is going to be a challenge, both on and off the court, and we are going to need contributions from our entire roster to be successful."
Marquette's roster features six returning letterwinners, led by Luis Heredia Gomez, Fran San Andres and Stefan Dragovic.Ā The trio was a consistent part of the team's dual-match lineup, featuring Heredia Gomez at the No. 2 position.Ā The Golden Eagles were 9-4 last season prior to the abrupt conclusion.
This season will also mark the debut for MU's group of six newcomers, which consists of five freshmen and Rami Scheetz, a transfer from UConn.Ā Scheetz played No. 1 singles for UConn as a true freshman in 2019-20.
The Golden Eagles haven't competed (W, 7-0 vs. Georgetown) since March 12, 2020 when COVID-19 cut the 2019-20 campaign short and resulted in the cancelling of the 2020 fall season.Ā
