Golden Eagles conclude regular season with pair of home matches
The Marquette University women's soccer team (8-7-0) will host No. 20 Georgetown (9-0-6) on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. CT in the first match of a brief two-game homestand to close out the regular season.
The Golden Eagles split their matches last week, defeating St. John's 4-3 in overtime on Thursday before falling to Xavier 3-1 on Sunday.
POSTSEASON RACE HEATS UP
Marquette sits at 4-4 in conference play and could help secure a postseason bid with wins over the Hoyas and DePaul on Oct. 28. MU is tied with UConn with 12 points, with Providence and St. John's trailing closely behind with 10.
With two matches remaining, the Golden Eagles have the possibility of accumulating six more points in the standings, while the Red Storm could potentially tack on nine with wins over Seton Hall, Creighton and Villanova.
Providence and UConn both have three matches remaining as well, but can only record seven more points at most since the two squads square off on Thursday. The top-six teams in the league standings earns a post in the conference tourney.
BALANCED OFFENSIVE ATTACK
The last seven Marquette goals have each been scored by different players. Alexa Maletis, Katrina Wetherell, Alyssa Bombacino, Madison Burrier, Rachel Johnson, Maggie Starker and Hailey Block have all found the back of the net dating back to Oct. 3.
SERIES VS. GEORGETOWN
MU is 3-8-1 in 12 all-time matches with Georgetown. The Golden Eagles fell 3-1 the last time these two teams met and are seeking their first win against the Hoyas since Oct. 13, 2013.
