XC Completes 2021 Regular Season at Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS – The Marquette men's and women's cross country teams completed their 2021 regular season Friday afternoon at the Illini Open.

The meet began with the women's 6k race at the UI Arboretum.

All four MU women finished the race in consecutive positions. Junior Lauren Neiheisel, in her first meet of the season, led the Golden Eagles with a time of 24:55.7 to finish 17th overall. Junior Grace Dargiewicz followed in 18th-place with a time of 25:27.2.

Freshmen Gianna Konen (26:00.0) and Gretchen Pfeiffer (27:05.3) rounded out Marquette's four runners finishing in 19th and 20th, respectively.

Junior Patrick Burns was the lone runner for the Golden Eagles in the men's 8k. Burns finished in 11th-place with a time of 26:44.6.

UP NEXT:
The Golden Eagles kick-off their post-season next week at the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, Oct. 29, in Carmel, IN. The MU men and women will get a week off before competinging in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 12 in Evansville IN.
