Butler will be hosting the BIG EAST Championships at the Northview Church Course. The meet will begin at 10 am CT with the men's 8k race. The women's 6k race will follow at 10:50 am CT. An award ceremony is scheduled for 11:40 am CT after the races have concluded.
The 2021 BIG EAST Championships will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network through FloSports, Matt Schumaker will be on the call.
GOLDEN EAGLES NOTES:
Both teams are looking to improve upon their sixth-place finishes from last season's BIG EAST Championships.
Freshman Dan Weizeorick has been the men's top runner in three of four races this year. Weizeorick has continued to improve his times throughout the season, setting an 8k personal best (25:03.9) at Louisville earlier this year.
Senior Zak Kindl and Freshman David Zeller join Weizeorick and have been consistent top-seven finishers for the MU men this season. Kindl, in his first year at Marquette, has broken his 8k personal best in every meet he's competed in this year. Kindl's best time (25:24.8) came a couple of weeks ago at the Bradley "Pink" classic.
Zeller finished first for the MU men at last year's BIG EAST Championships and finished 35th overall.
The women's side returns Junior Kendall Pfrimmer, who has been the team's top finisher in three of four races this year, coming second to Kate Jochims at the Redbird Invite on Sep. 17.
Jochims finished first for the Golden Eagles at last year's BIG EAST Championships and took 26th overall.
Graduate Student Emily Foley and Junior Emily Noone have also been consistent top-five finishers for the Golden Eagles. Noone (22:42.9) set a 6k personal best at the Bradley "Pink" Classic earlier this season.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
Freshman Dan Weizeorick: "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get out there with great competition and some elite schools and just get out there and race."
Junior Kendall Pfrimmer: "I'm excited, I think we've shown a lot of improvement as the season has gone on and I think we can be big contenders in the BIG EAST Conference this year."
Head coach Sean Birren: "As long as we see the same type of progress that we've seen in the past month or so in terms of times dropping and packing in together for the team side of things I'm going to be pretty excited about where we land."
