
Volleyball hits .342 in sweep of DePaul

The Golden Eagles hit the road for their next two matches at Providence and Creighton

CHICAGO – The Marquette University women's volleyball team picked up a 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of DePaul on Sunday afternoon at McGrath-Phillips behind a balanced hitting attack.
The Golden Eagles (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) earned their second sweep of BIG EAST play by hitting .342 (46-8-111) and recording nine total blocks, including a match-high six from redshirt freshman middle Carsen Murray. Murray hit .462 in the win with seven kills and finished second to Hope Werch in total points with 10.5. Werch had nine kills and a pair of service aces while hitting .308, and Taylor Wolf approached a triple-double in the sweep with nine kills, 12 assists and 10 digs.
Jill Pressly led the Blue Demons (9-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) with a match-high 14 kills and hit .444. DePaul hit .207 (42-18-116) in the loss, including a mark of .103 in the deciding frame.
Marquette broke free from an 18-18 tie in the opening frame for a 25-23 win despite DePaul fighting off set-point on two occasions. Head coach Ryan Theis called timeout as DePaul pulled the set within one, 24-23, but MU closed the frame on an Avery Horejsi service error. MU hit just .180 in the set.
The Golden Eagles hit .533 (18-2-30) and led the entire way in a 25-17 set two win, and captured the final stanza by the same score after hitting .419 (13-0-31) with zero attack errors.
Marquette continues BIG EAST play on the road with a Friday, Oct. 8 matchup at Providence before a Sunday showdown in Omaha, Nebraska with the league's preseason favorite Creighton
