Golden Eagles continue road swing at Providence on Sunday
The Marquette University women's soccer team (7-5-0, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss at UConn (6-5-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) Thursday evening in league action.
Thursday's final score marked the first time the Golden Eagles allowed multiple goals in a match since Sept. 5 in a 2-1 OT loss at Utah State, a span of seven matches.
Freshman Maggie Starker led the offensive attack with three shots on goal and Alyssa Bombacino added two of her own. Marquette collected 12 shots as a team, including a pair that hit the crossbar, one in each half.
Marquette fell behind early, as UConn found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Netminder Mikki Easter, who finished with seven stops, made an initial save on a shot from the left side, but the rebound found the foot of Jada Konte at the top of the box and her strike snuck inside the near post.
UConn added a pair of second-half markers to move ahead 3-0 in the 72nd minute.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles wrap up a two-match road swing at Providence on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 12 p.m. CT.
