San Andres, Dragovic claim singles wins
Ā The Marquette University men's tennis team (3-4) saw its late rally come up just short in a 4-3 loss to Northern Illinois (6-0) Thursday night in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Marquette opened the match by claiming the doubles point, earning wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Shaddy Khalafallah and Rami Scheetz clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
The Huskies moved ahead 3-1 with a trio of straight-set singles wins before Stefan Dragovic (No. 3) and Fran San Andres (No. 2) were able to claim victories of their own to tie the score at 3-3.Ā
The deciding point came down to the No. 6 position, manned by newcomer Ian Brady.Ā Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, NIU's Mikael Vollbach was able to edge Brady for the 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win to secure the team victory.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, Feb. 28 when the team hosts BIG EAST rival DePaul at 2 p.m. CT.
