Chandler Hallwood tied his career-high with seven saves
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Marquette men's soccer team tied the Butler Bulldogs 0-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
For the fifth time in six games, MU (4-1-1, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) found itself in an overtime battle. For only the first time this season, the Golden Eagles had a game end in a draw.
MU strikers Lukas Sunesson (2 shots) and Beto Soto (3 shots) combined for five shots, four of which came on goal. Redshirt freshman defender Jonathan Robinson had two late scoring chances as well, with one of his shots sailing wide and the other being blocked by a Bulldog defender.
The Golden Eagles' best chance of the day came around the 65-minute mark. Redshirt sophomore keeper Chandler Hallwood made a save and quickly punted the ball down the field. He hit a streaking Soto 70 yards down the pitch in stride to create a scoring chance. Soto cut in to his left and laced a hard shot towards the top left corner of the net, but Butler keeper Gabriel Gjergji got a hand on the shot and pushed it wide.
The Bulldogs won the battle in shots 21-8 and held a 14-5 edge in corner kicks.
Hallwood kept the Golden Eagles afloat throughout the match, tying his career-high with seven saves to keep a clean sheet. The Golden Eagles have kept clean sheets in four of their six contests in 2021.
