MU to face Musketeers at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday
The Marquette University women's soccer team (3-1-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST Conference action this week with a pair of matches.
The Golden Eagles will host Xavier (2-3-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 18 at Valley Fields before traveling to Creighton (0-3-0, 0-2-2 BIG EAST) on Sunday, March 22 for a 1 p.m. CT start time.
This week's action will complete the first half of a home-and-home BIG EAST schedule in 2021 that features divisional play. Â The Golden Eagles, picked to finish fourth in the five-team Midwest Division, are currently tied for second with Xavier and DePaul. Â Butler is 3-0 in league play and at the top of the division with nine points. Â The top-two programs in each division will compete for the league championship in Providence, R.I., on April 14-17.
The Golden Eagles are led offensively by freshman forward Elsi Twombly, who scored in each of her first three appearances with the program. Â Senior Kylie Sprecher is second on the roster with five points, courtesy of a pair of scores, and five other players have found the back of the net on one occasion through the team's first four outings.
Freshman keeper Lauren Schill has seen a majority of the action in net and owns a goals-against-average of just 0.47, allowing just one score on the year. Â She has also made a team-leading 10 saves.Â
The Golden Eagles split a pair of road matches last week, winning 2-0 at DePaul before dropping a tough 1-0 decision at Butler on a late second-half score. Â The shorthanded Golden Eagles should have more players, including key contributors, for this week's action.
