
WSOC earns second BIG EAST win, 3-1, over Xavier

Rachel Johnson and Hailey Block each scored their first goals in Marquette uniforms

MILWAUKEE -Â Kylie Sprecher, Rachel Johnson and Hailey Block all scored in the Marquette University women's soccer team's 3-1 win over Xavier on Thursday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The win was the second for the Golden Eagles (4-1-0, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) in conference play after a 1-0 loss at Butler a week ago.Â

Sprecher's third goal of the year come in the 21st minute off a cross through the box off the foot of freshman Elsi Twombly. Twombly threaded the ball to Sprecher on the back post after receiving a pass from Elaina Eckert in the midfield up the right side.
Johnson's score came later in the first half on a rocket of a shot from the top of the box. She settled a pass from Twombly and fired it past Xavier keeper Olivia Jenkins inside the right post. The goal was Johnson's first score in 36 career matches at Marquette.
Block's goal in the 56th minute was also the first of her MU career, albeit in just her fifth contest at Marquette. The Grafton, Wisconsin native gave MU a 3-0 lead early in the second half before Xavier's Grace Blumfeldt pulled the Musketeers within two in the 64th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Schill made four saves in net for Marquette, which was out-shot, 10-8, in the contest, though shots on frame were an even 5-5.
Marquette continues its weekend at Creighton (0-3-0, 0-2-2 BIG EAST) on Sunday, March 22 in 1 p.m. CT start time match.
