#MUBB Hosts Xavier Saturday On Senior Night
3/4/2021 11:21:00 AM | Men's Basketball
FS1 features 8 p.m. CT broadcast
The Marquette University men's basketball team (12-13, 7-11 BIG EAST) wraps up its regular season on Saturday, March 6 when the team hosts Xavier (13-6, 6-6 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. CT for Senior Day and National Marquette Day @ Home. FS1 will feature the television broadcast, with Bob Brainerd (play-by-play) and Jess Settles (analyst) calling the action.
Series With Musketeers Spans 60 Years
Marquette and Xavier will meet for the 79th time on Saturday night, continuing a series that spans nearly half of the program's 103-year history.
The Golden Eagles own a 53-25 overall lead in matchups that date back to the 1958-59 campaign and had claimed four-straight wins until the 91-88 win by Xavier on Dec. 20. MU dominated the pairings during the Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds era, at one point claiming 26-straight victories between 1969 and 1983.
Seniors Honored On National Marquette Day
Saturday will mark not only the team's first game at Fiserv Forum in a month, but will also be the program's Senior Night, as well as the annual National Marquette Day celebration.
Prior to the game, the team will recognize seniors Jamal Cain, Ike Eke, Theo John and Koby McEwen for their contributions. Cain, John and Eke are the longest tenured players and McEwen is in his second season on the court after redshirting following his transfer from Utah State. Eke joined the program in 2017, but due to back injuries and was never able to suit up for the Golden Eagles.
National Marquette Day is a tradition dating back to the 1960s that brings the Marquette nation united together in pride and spirit to honor the values of the University. This year's "@ Home" version features a virtual sellout of Fiserv Forum and is focusing on University-wide philanthropy.
In its present form, National Marquette Day has been around since 1992. The celebration was preceded by Spirit Day, which dates back to the 1960s.
