Golden Eagles conclude regular season vs. Musketeers
The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-4-0, 3-4-0 BIG EAST) concludes the regular season at Xavier (3-5-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. CT in BIG EAST Conference action.
The Golden Eagles are looking to snap a two-match losing streak in the finale, with both of the setbacks coming at home in overtime to the top programs in the division. The most recent outing, a 2-1 loss to Creighton on April 1, eliminated Marquette from a spot in the league championship later this month.
Marquette claimed the first meeting against Xavier, posting a 3-1 win over the Musketeers on March 18 at Valley Fields. MU received goals from three different players, leading 2-0 at the intermission and 3-0 early in the second half.
Freshman Elsi Twombly leads the team offensively with eight points and shares the team lead in goals (3) with senior Kylie Sprecher. The Golden Eagles have received at least one goal from 10 players this spring.
Netminders Mikki Easter and Lauren Schill have split time on the field in recent outings, with Easter starting the last match against Creighton. The duo has combined to post a goals-against-average of 1.09 while making 39 total saves.
