Golf tied for ninth through 36 holes at Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minnesota – The Marquette University men's golf team sits in a tie for ninth after 36 holes at the University of Minnesota's Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club.

The Golden Eagles were 14th after Sunday morning's opening round, firing a combined 14-over-par 298, but followed that up with a 4-under 280 in the second round. Freshman Max Lyons, who is tied for 18th at 1-under (73-68--141), posted a 3-under 68 in the second round, including four-straight birdies on holes 12-15. Eichhorn shot a 2-under 69 in the second round and posted an eagle on the par-4 11th hole after making the turn at even par. He's tied for 21st at even par (73-68--142).

Eichhorn and Lyons each notched a 2-over 73 on the opening 18 holes, while Tyler Leach posted a 3-over 74. Leach was one-under-par through 13 holes before bogeying four of the last five in his opening round. Leach shot even-par in his second round and is tied for 37th.

Final round action at Windsong Farm kicks off on 7:15 a.m. Central time on Monday morning.

Aidan Lafferty, Josh Robinson and Nicolás Evangelio also concluded action as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic at Pioneer Creek Golf Course. Lafferty and Evangelio each posted even-par 72s on Saturday and Lafferty closed out play on Sunday with a 6-under 66 second round and a 4-over 76 final round. He finished tied for 13th, while Evangelio was tied for 21st and Robinson tied for 26th.
