Golf moves up to seventh in final round of Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minnesota – The Marquette University men's golf team moved up two spots on Monday to finish seventh at the University of Minnesota's Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club.

The Golden Eagles, who were 14th following Sunday morning's opening round, jumped in each subsequent round, tying for ninth at the end of the day yesterday before moving up again in the final round.

Freshman Max Lyons led the way for Marquette, posting a final round 1-under 70 to put him at 2-under for the tournament in a tie for 13th place (73-68-70--211). It is the second time in as many career events that he has led the Golden Eagles and is his third career round under par. He tied for 29th with a 2-under 214 at Erin Hills in his first collegiate event.

Redshirt senior Hunter Eichhorn tied for 23th at 1-over par (73-69-72--214), while shooting a 1-over 72 in final round action. Redshirt junior Tyler Leach concluded the event with back-to-back even-par 71s to tie for 28th (74-71-71--216)

The Golden Eagles are now off until Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 27-28 at Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois. Eichhorn was co-medalist at the last Windon Memorial Classic in 2019 at Conway Farms.

Aidan Lafferty, Josh Robinson and Nicolás Evangelio concluded action as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic at Pioneer Creek Golf Course on Sunday. Lafferty and Evangelio each posted even-par 72s on Saturday and Lafferty closed out play on Sunday with a 6-under 66 second round and a 4-over 76 final round. He finished tied for 13th, while Evangelio was tied for 21st and Robinson tied for 26th.
