Golden Eagles set multiple personal records at Illinois State
Normal, Illinois - The Marquette University women took sixth and the men finished in seventh at the Redbird Invite.
Eight Golden Eagles, six women and two men, set personal records at Weibring Golf Club Friday evening.
Beginning with the women's 6k race, Kate Jochims recorded her second top-25 finish of the year coming in 22nd-place with a time of 21:56.3. Junior Kendall Pfrimmer didn't finish far behind with a time of 22:03.9 to finish 26th-overall. In her first meet of the season, sophomore Laurel Moneysmith set a new personal record at 22:27.2 to take 36th-overall. Emily Noone (22.32.8) finished five seconds behind Moneysmith to finish 58th overall. Mallory Lafever rounded out Marquette's top-five runners coming in 68th place and setting a new personal record at 23:12.1.
"It was great to be at full race distance for both men and women. The ladies handled the added distance really well," MU head coach Sean Birren said. "Many of the ladies crossed the line at a faster average pace than the previous, shorter, meet."
In the men's 8k race, freshman Dan Weizeorick paced the Golden Eagles with a new personal best of 25:37.3 to finish 34th-overall. Patrick Hetlage, in his first race after a long layoff due to injury, set a new personal record as well at 25:42.0 to take 41st-place. David Zeller (25:42.3) finished three-tenths of a second behind Hetlage to finish 43rd. Jordan Janusiak (25:53.3) shortly followed to finish fourth for the MU men and 48th overall. Junior August Beyer finished in 51st recording a time of 25:59.7.
