
Golf in 10th after day one at Marquette Intercollegiate

Second round action at Erin Hills resumes Monday at 9 a.m.

ERIN, Wisconsin – The Marquette University men's golf team shot one-over par 289 as a team and is in 10th-place after the first day of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills, home of the 117th U.S. Open Championship.
Tyler Leach was the low man for the Golden Eagles, recording a 2-under 70. Leach was two-under at the turn and closed out the back nine with an even-par 36.
Hunter Eichhorn also finished under-par on the day with a 1-under 71. In his first collegiate round, freshman Max Lyons finished with a 1-over 73. Nicolás Evangelio and Josh Robinson both shot 75 on the day to finish 3-over par.
For the individuals, Bhoom Sima-Aree recorded five birdies during his round and finished at even par. Freshman Patrick Adler carded a 1-over 73 in his first round as a Golden Eagle.
Round two of the Marquette Intercollegiate at the Erin Hills continues Monday at 9 a.m. MU's individuals lead off at 9 a.m. on the first tee, while MU's lineup starts off the back nine at 10:40 a.m.

The 17-team field features Wisconsin, UC Davis, Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, Liberty, USF, USC, Minnesota, Texas A&M, Houston, Iowa, ETSU, Kansas, NIU and Ohio State in addition to the host Golden Eagles. Northwestern has won the event twice (2016 and 2018), while Texas A&M captured the team title in 2017. Purdue was the winner of the last Marquette Intercollegiate in 2019 with a 9-under par 855, two strokes ahead of Northwestern and two ahead of UCLA. Fourteen teams (including MU) have previously competed in MU's home fall event, while USC, ETSU and Kansas are making their first appearance.
This is the first year that the event is held in early September. All previous events have been held in early October since the Marquette Intercollegiate began in 2013. Erin Hills has hosted the tournament every fall since 2013, except for 2016 when the event was held at Milwaukee Country Club as the course prepared to host the 2017 U.S. Open, and in the 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The three-day tournament features 18 holes each day with play beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Live results will be available courtesy of Golfstat.
