#MUBB Rallies For 57-54 Win At No. 11/11 Villanova

The Marquette University men's basketball team (13-6, 5-3 BIG EAST) rallied for a 57-54 victory at No. 11/11 Villanova (13-5, 6-2 BIG EAST) Wednesday evening in BIG EAST action.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as nine points in the second half before rallying for the program's first-ever win at Finneran Pavilion. Villanova had won 29-straight games at home until Wednesday's win.

Forward Justin Lewis led the way with 21 points, guard Greg Elliott added 14 points and guard Darryl Morsell chipped in 10 points. Lewis knocked down a game-winning 3-pointer from the top of the key with 11.9 seconds left to secure the victory.

The Golden Eagles led 30-29 at the intermission, thanks to a defensive effort that held the Wildcats to just 41.9 percent shooting from the floor. Lewis led the way with 11 points and Morsell chipped in 10 points, including a layup just before the buzzer that gave MU the advantage. MU led by as many as six points in the opening 20 minutes.

Notables:

Prior to Wednesday night, only one player on the roster, Greg Elliott, had ever played at Villanova
Marquette is currently in the midst of a run that could see the team facing six nationally ranked opponents in seven outings.
The Golden Eagles have now won five-straight BIG EAST games for the first time since 2018-19.
