Golden Eagles return home for rematch with Pirates at Al McGuire Center

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (12-5, 5-3 BIG EAST) returns home this week as it plays host to Seton Hall (8-8, 3-5 BIG EAST). The Golden Eagles and Pirates will face off on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Al McGuire Center. The game will be broadcast by BEDN on FloHoops with Patrick Reed (play-by-play), Michelle Griffin Wenzel (analyst) and Alexis Downie (sideline) on the call. The Golden Eagles currently sit at fourth in the league standings with a 13-5 overall record and a 6-3 mark in conference play. Marquette is coming off of back-to-back road wins last week as it rolled through Villanova and Butler.
Seton Hall has dropped three of its past five contests, and is 3-5 in conference play and 8-8 on the season. Most recently, the Pirates suffered a 71-38 loss at UConn on Jan. 26. Prior to that, they posted wins over Providence and St. John's
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series against Seton Hall, 16-10, though the Pirates have won three-straight. Marquette is 11-0 in Milwaukee against Seton Hall. Earlier this season, MU dropped a 69-57 contest to the Pirates in South Orange, New Jersey on Dec. 19, highlighted by a 25-point, 10-rebound performance by SHU's Lauren Park-Lane. Marquette was led by Karissa McLaughlin's season-high 26 points.
Seton hall has been led this season by Park-Lane, who averages a team-best 17.3 points and 6.7 assists per contest (3rd nationally). Redshirt senior forward/center Sidney Cooks leads the squad's rebounding efforts with 7.4 boards per game. The Pirates are coached by Anthony Bozzella, in his ninth season with the program.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
• Seton enters the contest with an 8-8 overall record including a 3-5 mark in BIG EAST games.
• The Pirates are coming off a 71-38 loss at UConn on Jan. 21. They have dropped three of their past five games.
• In 2020-21, Seton Hall finished the season 14-7 with a 12-5 record in league play. It was picked third in this year's BIG EAST preseason poll.
• The Bulldogs are 2-4 on the road this season.
• Statistically, Seton Hall has been led by junior guard Lauren Park-Lane, who leads the team with 17.3 points per game while also ranking third in the nation with 6.7 assists per contest.
• Redshirt senior forward/center Sidney Cooks leads the team's rebounding efforts with 7.4 boards per game.
• Seton Hall leads the BIG EAST and ranks 16th nationally with 13.1 rebounds per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SETON HALL
• Wednesday's game will mark the 27th all-time meeting between Marquette and Seton Hall, a series which began in 2006.
• MU has won eight of the past 12 games, but Seton Hall has won the last three, each of which was played in South Orange.
• Marquette is 11-0 all-time against the Pirates in Milwaukee.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
• Marquette and Seton Hall matched up on Dec. 19 at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, New Jersey, a 69-57 win for the Pirates.
• Despite a season-high 26 points from Karissa McLaughlin, MU was unable to overcome 33.3 percent shooting (22-of-66) as a team from the floor.
• Seton Hall's Lauren Park-Lane went off for 25 points, eight rebounds, four rebounds and three steals, while shooting 6-of-8 from 3-point range.
• Liza Karlen went for a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.
• The game was close through three quarters, when Seton Hall went on a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter to gain separation.

• The Golden Eagles are 33-12 in conference action under Coach Duffy.
• Coach Duffy is off to the best coaching start through three seasons of any coach in program history. She boasts a 56-20 overall mark (.737) at Marquette.
• The Golden Eagles are 46-2 under Coach Duffy when leading at halftime and 32-3 when they turn the ball over fewer times than their opponent.
• MU is 30-3 when scoring more than 70 points under Coach Duffy and 38-4 when shooting more free throws than its opponent.
• In the 76 games of the Coach Duffy era, the Golden Eagles have out-rebounded their opponent in 63 of those games (49-15 record).
DUFFY EARNS WIN 100
• Coach Megan Duffy picked up the 100th win of her coaching career on Sunday in Marquette's 78-48 win at Butler.
• Duffy, who is in her third year at Marquette after spending two seasons at Miami (OH), has had a stellar start to her career with a 100-40 (.716) overall record.
• Reaching the milestone in just 140 games, Duffy became the fastest to 100 wins of any of the current BIG EAST coaches.
KARLEN NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
• After playing a large part in Marquette's two dominant road wins last week, Liza Karlen was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
• Karlen averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 blocks per contest on the week, while shooting a combined 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the floor.
• She recorded career highs of eight assists and four blocks against Xavier on Friday, while going for a career-high 19 points against Butler on Sunday.
• This is the second Honor Roll appearance of Karlen's career (Dec. 28, 2020).
LAST TIME OUT
• Marquette picked up its second-straight road win, defeating Butler 78-48 on Sunday.
• The Golden Eagles got out to a 20-4 lead to open the game, sparked by Karissa McLaughlin's 17 first quarter points. Marquette never trailed in the contest.
• Liza Karlen had her second-straight game posting career marks as she dropped a career-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with seven boards.
• Marquette dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 38-20 led by Chloe Marotta's eight boards.
