Golden Eagles return to action Friday at Georgetown
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's basketball team downed the No. 16/17 Providence Friars 88-56 at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday.
The win marks Marquette's largest win over a ranked opponent in school history. The previous high was a 29-point victory, achieved in 1971 over No. 9 Michigan and 1995 over No. 22 Santa Clara.
Justin Lewis paced the Golden Eagles (9-6, 1-3 BIG EAST) with his fourth career double double, totaling a career high 23Â points and 11 rebounds. Forward Oso Ighodaro contributed 16Â points on the day.
For the Friars (13-2, 3-1 BIG EAST), Al Durham led with 16 points, while forward Ed Croswell added 11 points and seven boards.
Marquette shot a combined 52.5% while holding the Friars to a shooting percentage of just 32.8% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc.

- The 32-point victory marks MU's biggest win over a BIG EAST opponent since 2019, when the Golden Eagles defeated the St. John's Red Storm by the same margin. MU's largest ever victory over a BIG EAST team came in the 2008-09 season, a 34-point win over Cincinnati.
- Marquette now leads the all-time series between the two schools 21-12.
- MU got out to a hot start in the contest, jumping out to leads of 6-0 and 20-6. After the Friars tightened the deficit, the Golden Eagles went on an 18-0 run near the end of the first frame to lead 42-22 at the half.
- Redshirt freshman Tyler Kolek tied a career high nine assists, keeping himself atop the BIG EAST leaderboard in the category. Tuesday marks the fifth time this season the Rhode Island native has totaled over eight helpers.
- Forward Kur Kuath, the BIG EAST leader in blocks, reached a new career high by stuffing seven shots in the game.
- Following up a career high 22 points against Creighton, Ighodaro managed another double-digit performance on 6-of-7 shooting.
- After missing the last matchup against Creighton, freshman guard Kam Jones contributed his fourth double-figure game with 14 points.
