Golden Eagles set to wrap up regular season with matches against Georgetown, St. John's
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University men's soccer team (4-8-4, 0-4-4 BIG EAST) winds down the 2022 campaign this week as it gets set for a pair of BIG EAST matches. The Golden Eagles first travel east to Washington D.C. this Saturday to face the #24 Georgetown Hoyas (8-4-3, 6-1-1 BIG EAST) on Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. (CT), before returning home to Valley Fields next week to host the St. John's Red Storm (4-7-4, 2-3-3 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
The Hoyas currently sit atop the BIG EAST standings and rank No. 24 in the most recent coaches poll. Georgetown has been unbeaten since Sept. 20, rattling off seven wins and a draw since that point. The Hoyas are led offensively this season by junior forward Marlon Tabora, who has 16 points on five goals and six assists this season.
The Red Storm enter the final week of league play eighth in the league standings with nine points, posting a 2-3-3 record against BIG EAST opponents. Redshirt junior midfielder/defender Antek Sienkiel has been the squad's top scorer with seven goals to go along with two assists this season.
SENIOR SALUTE
Wednesday night against St. John's, the Marquette men's soccer team will hold its senior night as it honors the team's seven seniors during a pre-game ceremony. This stellar senior class has combined for 330 appearances and 301 starts, 41 goals, 26 assists, 108 points, and 25,572 total minutes on the pitch.
The seven seniors who will be honored include Zyan Andrade (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Ben Barkley (Tulsa, Okla.), Chandler Hallwood (Halifax, England), Alex Mirsberger (Brookfield, Wis.), Harvey Read (Southampton, England), Alan Salmeron (Cicero, Ill.) and Lukas Sunesson (Taby, Sweden).
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will mark the 20th all-time meeting between Marquette and Georgetown, a series which began in 2005. The Hoyas have had the upper hand in the series with an overall record of 14-2-3, though Marquette came out on top in a 1-0 match last October in Milwaukee in what was the program's first-ever win over a No. 1 ranked opponent.
All-time against St. John's, the Golden Eagles hold a 4-4-3 record in a competitive series which dates back to 2005. MU has a 2-2-1 series record against the Red Storm in Milwaukee. Last season in Queens, St. John's earned a 4-0 win.
