Series With DePaul Spans Program History
  Â
Marquette's all-time series with DePaul dates back to the 1917-18 season (second year of MU's varsity competition) and includes 130 previous meetings, the highest total against any single opponent in program history.
  Â
The Golden Eagles own an 81-49 advantage in the series and have claimed eight of the last 11 matchups. Â
  Â
The extensive series history has been aided by the fact the two programs have been in the same league dating back to the 1991-92 campaign. Â Since that season, the teams have shared affiliation in the Great Midwest Conference, Conference USA and BIG EAST.
  Â
The Golden Eagles claimed the first meeting this season in the home-and-home series, earning an 87-76 victory on Jan. 11 at Fiserv Forum. Â Guard Greg Elliott led five players in double figures for MU, netting a career-best 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor.
  Â
Rob Judson, who served as special assistant to the head coach for four seasons (2017-21) at Marquette, is in his first season at DePaul in the same role.
Marquette Playing For First-Round ByeÂ
  Â
The Golden Eagles, picked to finish ninth in the preseason coaches poll, find themselves in a position to claim a first-round bye and quarterfinal appearance in the upcoming league tournament entering the final week of the regular season.
  Â
With 10 BIG EAST victories already in the books, Marquette is now assured of a top-six finish and could claim as high as the No. 4 seed. Â One more win, or a loss by Seton Hall, would give MU at least a fifth-place finish. Â If both teams finish 10-9, Marquette would claim the tiebreaker with the season-series sweep over the Pirates.
  Â
There is a chance that Marquette, Creighton and Seton Hall could all finish 11-8 and each program would be 2-2 against each other on the season. Â In that scenario, MU would claim the No. 4 position, courtesy of its win over first-place Providence on Jan. 4.
