#MUBB Faces Creighton Thursday In BIG EAST Tourney

The No. 5 seed Marquette University men's basketball team (19-11, 11-8 BIG EAST) opens play at the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep on Thursday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. CT against No. 4 seed Creighton (20-10, 12-7 BIG EAST) at Madison Square Garden. FS1 will feature the national television broadcast, with Tim Brando (play-by-play), Jim Jackson (analyst) and Kristina Pink (reporter) calling the action. The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal matchup advances to face Providence (No. 1), Butler (No. 9) or Xavier (No. 8) in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday, March 11.
Marquette Set For League Tourney
Marquette is set for its 16th BIG EAST Conference Tournament and will be making a trip to at least the quarterfinals for the 15th time.
The Golden Eagles are 12-15 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament and 24-30 in postseason events since joining a league for the first time in 1989-90. MU has made a total of three trips to the BIG EAST semifinals, including in 2019 against Seton Hall (L, 81-79). The Golden Eagles were defeated in 2010 by Georgetown, 80-57, and Pittsburgh, 68-61, in 2008.
MU, which has earned the No. 5 seed, was picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll.
All-Time Series Dates Back To 1922-23
MU's series against Creighton spans nearly the entirety of the program's 104-year history.
The Golden Eagles own a 56-38 advantage in the all-time series, but the Bluejays have claimed five of the last six outings.
Prior to 2013-14, when the Bluejays joined the BIG EAST, the most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 National Invitation Tournament. MU posted an 80-68 victory in the opening round at the Bradley Center en route to an appearance in the event's quarterfinals.
Creighton earned a 75-69 win in double overtime in the first meeting this season on New Years Day and claimed a narrow 83-82 on Feb. 20 in Omaha to sweep the home-and-home series.
Guards Darryl Morsell and Kam Jones averaged 18.0 points per game in the two outings against the Bluejays and forward Oso Ighodaro combined to shoot 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) from the floor en route to 13.0 points per contest.
