MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's lacrosse team defeated the Providence Friars, 16-11, in the BIG EAST lidlifter on Saturday at Valley Fields.
Bobby O'Grady led the Golden Eagles (3-6, 1-0 BIG EAST) with a career-high six goals, while Devon Cowan added three goals and three assists. Michael Allieri made 14 saves between the pipes, with Luke Williams winning 18-of-28 faceoffs and picking up a game-high eight ground balls for MU.
The Friars (5-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) were paced by Ryan Bell with three goals and two assists while Evan McGreen added a hat trick. Goaltender Michael Harris stopped seven shots and Quinn McConnaughey picked up nine wins at the faceoff dot.

Notables:
- Saturday was the start of MU's conference slate, marking the first of five BIG EAST conference tilts. The lone nonconference matchup comes against Notre Dame on April 12.
- It was a brotherly affair at Valley Fields, as Marquette freshman Bobby O'Grady squared off against his brother Mike O'Grady, a senior LSM and captain for the Friars.
- Cowan made his first appearance for the Golden Eagles since the contest against Michigan on March 1. The reigning All-BIG EAST First Team selection posted six points in his return to the starting lineup.
- Marquette started the game on a 6-0 scoring run, winning the first five faceoffs and taking the first six shots.
- The Golden Eagles had seven goal scorers in the first half, with O'Grady finding the net five times in the opening 30 minutes.
- O'Grady became the fourth Marquette player to tally six goals in a game, joining Cowan, Jordan Greenfield and Tanner Thomson. O'Grady also added an assist in the matchup.
- MU defensemen David Lamarca and Mason Woodward each scooped up seven ground balls in the contest.
- 16 goals is the most MU has scored against Providence. The previous high was 14 in April of 2015.
