MARQUETTE SET FORÂ PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE MATCHES
The Marquette University men's soccer team (3-2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) prepares to host its final games of non-conference play as it takes on a pair of opponents at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles will first host the Ivy League's Yale Bulldogs (2-0-2, 0-0 Ivy) on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., before welcoming cross-town opponent Milwaukee (1-3-2, 0-0 Horizon) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on FloSports.
After posting a 7-5-4 record in 2021, the Bulldogs are still unbeaten with two wins and a pair of draws this season. The team is coming off of back-to-back victories, most posting a 1-0 win at home over BIG EAST opponent Villanova. Senior attacker Paolo Carroll, the team's top point-getter from a season ago, accounts for two of Yale's six goals this season.
The Panthers are off to a 1-3-2 start to the year after finishing the 2021 season with a 9-8-1 overall record. Milwaukee is coming off of two-straight 1-1 draws at home, against Drake and Western Illinois, respectively. It will face Robert Morris at home before Tuesday's contest.
THREE GOLDEN EAGLES HONORED BY BIG EAST
Following their individual performances in Marquette's 3-0 win over Michigan last week, three MU players earned BIG EAST weekly honors. Senior defender Alex Mirsberger was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Golden Eagle defense earn a clean sheet, while also recording a goal on the offensive end. Senior Chandler Hallwood was honored for the second-straight week, this time as Goalkeeper of the Week, after earning his second-consecutive clean sheet. Sophomore attacker Abdoul Karim Pare was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring two of MU's three goals in the match.
PARE LEADING THE MU ATTACK
After joining Marquette as a transfer from NAIA LSU-Shreveport in the offseason, Abdoul Karim Pare has made an immediate impact on the Golden Eagles in their 2022 campaign.
The sophmore striker from the Ivory Coast currently leads the team in points and is tied for the team lead in both goals and assists, totaling eight points on three goals and two assists. Pare also recorded game-winners against both Utah Tech and Michigan. Pare also leads the squad with a .429 shot percentage, scoring his three goals on jsut seven total shots.
SERIES HISTORY
Marquette and Yale will meet up for the first time in program history on Saturday. In fact, MU has only faced Ivy League opponents three times (Penn twice, Columbia once), and has an 0-1-2 record in those contests.
Tuesday's contest will mark the 48th all-time meeting between Marquette and Milwaukee, the second-longest running series in MU's history. The Panthers hold a 31-11-5 advantage historically, with Marquette's last win coming in 2014. After meeting in 47-straight years between 1973-2019, the squads did not play the past two years.
