Golden Eagles suffer first loss of conference play Friday night
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette men's soccer team (4-5-1, 0-1-1 BIG EAST) suffered its first loss of BIG EAST play on Friday night, dropping a 3-1 match to RV Butler at Valley Fields.
After a slow start to the match for both offenses, Butler (6-2-1, 2-0-1) was able to register the first goal of the contest in the 31st minute after a ball was deflected in the box by a Marquette defender to set up a right-footed strike for the Bulldogs. They took a 1-0 lead into the half, before tacking on a second goal in the 53rd minute.Â
Marquette answered in the 73rd minute as freshman defender Diegoarmando Alvarado netted the first goal of his collegiate career on a counter to bring the match back within reach. Butler responded soon after, however, scoring in the 86th minute to solidify the win.Â
Eight different Golden Eagles recorded shots on the night as Marquette totaled 11, including four on net. On the flip side, Butler had 21 shots, seven on goal. Senior Chandler Hallwood spent all 90 minutes in net for MU, making four saves while facing 21 shots.Â
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will return to action next week as they head on the road to Pennsylvania to face Villanova on Wednesday, October 5, at 3 p.m. (CT).Â
