Walinski participated in an NCAA-grant-funded longitudinal study on mindfulness
MILWAUKEE - Women's thrower Veronica Walinski is the Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2022, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Student Programs staff. Â
Walinski is in her fourth year of the exercise physiology program, and is a member the Marquette University women's track & field team. She has earned BIG EAST All-Academic honors, Dean's List in the College of Health Sciences, and Athletics Director's Honor Roll every semester of her Marquette career. She is inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the honor society for collegiate athletes.
In addition, Veronica is involved in SHAPE (Student Health Allies & Peer Educators) promoting mental health and wellness, and participated in an NCAA-grant-funded longitudinal study with Dr. Lee Za Ong on the impact of mindfulness. Veronica has translated the outcomes of that learning into relevant use with injury recovery in the exercise physiology field as well.
This summer, Veronica researched study-abroad opportunities and found a program in Poland, where she has family and cultural roots. She applied for the program, and through it, was awarded a scholarship to study at Jagiellonian University in Poland. She returned with new understanding of global health, particularly in eastern-bloc European countries, and how patient care is both the same and different in other parts of the world. She is looking to integrate her learning this summer with her current studies, with focus to global health and wellness.
