Al McGuire Ties Marquette And St. John'sÂ
  Â
The all-time series (Marquette leads 24-16) began in 1959-60 and prior to the clinching of the BIG EAST title on the last day of the regular season in 2012-13, the series' top highlight was a 65-53 Marquette victory in the championship game of the 1970 National Invitation Tournament. Â
  Â
MU claimed the NIT title under the direction of legendary head coach Al McGuire, who played for three seasons at St. John's (1948-51). In his first season with the Redmen, he finished third in scoring with an 8.1 points per game average. Â
  Â
McGuire's coaching career at Marquette included the 1977 national title, nine NCAA tournament appearances and a 295-80 overall record.  The program and university celebrate "Al's Night" each season when St. John's plays in Milwaukee.
  Â
Marquette posted an 85-77 win on March 5, 2022 at Fiserv Forum in the only meeting between the two programs in 2021-22. Â The first matchup, scheduled for Dec. 29, was canceled due to Covid protocols within in the St. John's program.
Mitchell's Career Night Leads To Win At Nova

  Â
The sophomore guard netted 19 points on 8-of-13 from the field and also chipped in a personal-high four steals and a pair of assists. Â
  Â
Mitchell's point total marked his fifth-career double-figure performance (first since 2022-23 opener) and his highest point total since netting 14 points against SIUE in the 2021-22 season opener, his first collegiate appearance.
  Â
