Marotta scores 20 as Golden Eagles fall in final game of three-game road trip
OMAHA, Neb. — The Marquette women's basketball team (10-6, 3-4 BIG EAST) concluded a three-game road trip with a loss Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 25 Creighton 68-42 inside of DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha.
In what was its lowest-scoring outing of the season, Marquette struggled to find an offensive rhythm and was held to just 33.3 percent (19-of-57) shooting in the contest. Creighton opened the game by going up 7-0 quickly out of the gates, triggering an MU timeout, then closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run to separate itself early. The Bluejays led 35-14 at the half.
Despite being outscored by just five points in a competitive second half, the Golden Eagles were unable to make up any ground as Creighton shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the floor through the final two quarters.
The senior duo of forward Chloe Marotta and guard Jordan King combined to score 33 of Marquette's 42 points, led by Marotta's 20 points. In what was the second start of her career, senior guard Claire Kaifes led the team with six rebounds.
The Bluejays were paced by Lauren Jensen, who finished with a team-high 19 points and five assists.

Claire Kaifes made the second start of her collegiate career. The Marquette starting lineup of King-Nkumu-Kaifes-La Chapell-Marotta was its sixth unique lineup this season.

Chloe Marotta led all scorers in the contest with 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting. This was her second 20-plus point scoring outing of the season, and the fifth of her career.

Jordan King also reached double-figures, finishing with 13 poitns. This was her 13th time scoring in double-digits this season, and the 56th of her career.

The duo of King and Marotta combined for 33 of Marquette's 42 points.

Marquette's starting unit accounted for 37 of 42 points.

Marquette never led in the contest, while Creighton led for 39:44.

Marquette finished the game shooting 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from 3-point range and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) from the free throw line.

With the loss, Marquette is now 13-16 all-time against Creighton.
