Golden Eagles in search of valuable points in the BIG EAST standings
The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-6-3, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST Conference play this week with a pair of road matches.
  Â
The Golden Eagles play at Providence at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 12 prior to action at Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. CT.
  Â
Marquette will remain on the East coast for both matches during its five-day road swing.
BIG EAST Play Enters 2nd Half     Â
Marquette begins the second half of the league schedule Thursday night at Providence, looking to pickup valuable BIG EAST points on the road.
  Â
The Golden Eagles, hoping to qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 2017, are currently tied for sixth place (top six teams qualify) with St. John's with seven points.
  Â
MU didn't play last weekend, however, so four of the programs tied with, or ahead, of Marquette have already played six league matches.
Easter Seeing Lots Of Action        Â
Goalkeeper Mikki Easter has settled into the starting netminder role for Marquette and has been busy between the pipes this season.
  Â
Through matches of Oct. 8, Easter ranks third in the BIG EAST in both saves (46) and saves per game (3.83). Â She is also tied for fifth in the league in shutouts (4).
Easter, Block Earn Weekly Honors
  Â
Marquette seniors Mikki Easter and Hailey Block both earned BIG EAST Conference accolades on Oct. 2 after leading MU to a 3-1 win at Creighton (Sept. 28) and a 0-0 draw at UConn (Oct. 1).
  Â
Easter was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after combining to make 14 saves in the two outings, matching a personal best (Aug. 24 vs. Denver) with eight stops against Creighton. Â She followed that up with her fourth shutout of the campaign at UConn.
  Â
Block scored a pair of goals in the victory at Creighton, her first scores of the campaign. Â She opened the scoring just two minutes into the match and provided a two-goal advantage prior to the intermission.
Bieda Nets Goal, Ends StreakÂ
  Â
Forward Josie Bieda netted the game-winning goal in a 1-0 decision at Milwaukee on Sept. 7, snapping the Panthers' 19-match winning streak (18-0-1) at Engelmann Stadium.
Cline Nets Winner At ColoradoÂ
  Â
Junior defender Caroline Cline touched home her second-career goal on Aug. 20 at Colorado, giving MU just enough to earn the 1-0 victory.
  Â
Cline found herself alone at the back post in the 35th minute on a corner from Mia Heartle and Kate Gibson's quick touch at the near post rolled right to Cline's feet.
  Â
She added her first assist of the season at Creighton (Sept. 28) and now has three points on the year.
