WSOC Drops 5-0 Decision To First-Place Georgetown
10/19/2023 9:15:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Golden Eagles host St. John's Sunday at 1 p.m. CT
The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-8-4, 2-4-2 BIG EAST) opened up a two-match homestand with a 5-0 loss against Georgetown (9-1-7, 5-0-4 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST Conference action Thursday night.
Â
Despite the setback, the Golden Eagles remain in the hunt for one of the six spots in the BIG EAST Tournament with two matches remaining. MU is currently tied (eight points) with Butler for seventh place, with both Seton Hall and St. John's just ahead with 10 points.
Â
Rainy and wet conditions slowed the offensive attack of both squads in the opening half as the two teams combined for just three total shots on goal. Midfielder Hailey Block accounted for all three of Marquette's scoring attempts, including two on frame.
Â
Georgetown, which finished the night with a 19-5 advantage in shots, opened the scoring in the 56th minute and 10 minutes later owned a 4-0 advantage to break the match open.
Â
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, Oct. 22 when the team hosts St. John's to conclude league play at home at 1 p.m. CT.
