#MUBB Hosts St. Thomas Thursday In Non-Conference Finale

The No. 7/7 Marquette University men's basketball team (8-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up its three-game homestand on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. CT when the squad hosts St. Thomas (6-4, 0-0 Summit League) to conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule. Â FS1 features the television broadcast, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and LaVall Jordan (analyst) calling the action. Â Following Thursday's outing, the Golden Eagles will open BIG EAST Conference play at Providence on Dec. 19.Â
MU's Series With St. Thomas Spans 100 Years

Marquette's series with St. Thomas dates back to the program's third season of competition in 1919-20, but the two teams haven't met since the 1977-78 campaign.

The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 8-3 and have claimed seven of the last eight matchups. Â The first matchup was a 17-11 win by St. Thomas on Feb. 21, 1920 and the most recent outing was an 80-45 victory by Marquette at home on Nov. 30, 1977.Â

Bernard Toone and Butch Lee both scored 10 points in the victory under first-year head coach Hank Raymonds and Marquette finished with a 41-22 advantage on the boards and forced 14 turnovers.
Kolek Claims BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Guard Tyler Kolek was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in 2023-24 and third time in his career.

The Cumberland, R.I., native averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists while shooting 70.8 percent from the floor in a pair of victories against No. 12 Texas and Notre Dame. Â In the victory over Texas, he poured in 28 points to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. In the win against Notre Dame, Kolek posted 17 points, seven boards and seven assists.

The league's preseason player of the year in 2023-24 also earned weekly accolades on a pair of occasions in 2022-23 en route to claiming the BIG EAST's postseason award.
Marquette Enjoying Extended Fiserv Success

Dating back to last season, Marquette is in possession of a 16-game winning streak at Fiserv Forum, which is currently tied for the fifth-longest active streak in the country through games of Dec. 11.

The Golden Eagles claimed their final 11 home games in 2022-23 (16-1 overall) and are 5-0 to start this season. Â Â

MU's 16 home victories last year were the second most (17-0 in 1977-78) in program history and the team's 18-game homecourt winning streak in BIG EAST action dating back to 2021-22 is currently the longest in the conference and tied for the second-best in league history (20 - Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh).
