Golden Eagles host Georgetown at 6 p.m. CT on Friday
The No. 6/6 Marquette University men's basketball team (9-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) opened BIG EAST Conference play with a 72-57 loss at Providence (10-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) Tuesday night at Amica Mutual Pavilion.

Guard Tyler Kolek finished with 21 points and nine rebounds and Kam Jones chipped in 13 points.

The Golden Eagles trimmed an 11-point halftime deficit to just four points in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Friars responded and pulled away for the double-digit win. Marquette finished just 32.1 percent from the floor for the game, 25.9 in the second half.

Marquette trailed 40-29 at the intermission after the Friars closed the half with a 10-3 run. The Golden Eagles shot just 11-of-29 (37.9 percent) from the floor in the opening stanza and turned the ball over six times. Jones led the way offensively with 13 points.
