HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 18/18 Marquette women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, losing 95-64 at No. 15/17 UConn in Hartford.
Marquette (12-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) had four in double figures and were led by Jordan King, who had a team-high 16 points and five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles came out of the gates with a 10-0 run, but UConn countered with a 13-0 run of their own to end the first quarter to build a 26-21 lead. A 7-0 run early in the second quarter got the lead to double digits for the Huskies that would stay the rest of the game.
Marquette shot a season-low 34.4 percent from the field and were outrebounded for the first time this season, 47-32.
UConn (10-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) had four in double-figures led by Paige Bueckers, who had a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Aaliyah Edwards had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

- Liza Karlen scored in double-figures for the 12th time this season with 13 points.
- Mackenzie Hare had 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers for her 11th double-digit scoring output for the season.
- Skylar Forbes scored in double-figures for the third time this season with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
- Rose Nkumu had seven assists, the third time this season the senior has had seven-or-more assists in a game.
- Marquette came out of the gates with a 10-0 start, second game in a row MU started the game with a double-digit run. Golden Eagles were up 21-0 over Bucknell on Dec. 21.
- Third time this season Marquette had single-digit turnovers this season after nine turnovers today.
- Only second time this season an MU opponent shot over 50 percent from the field. Then No. 23 Illinois shot 57.4 percent on Nov. 11, 2023.
- Halle Vice, Abbey Cracknell, and Bridget Utberg made their BIG EAST debuts.
- Marquette stays on the road to face St. John's on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
