
WBB Drops Road Contest at St John’s Wednesday Night

Golden Eagles Return Home to Host Xavier Saturday at 2 p.m. CT
QUEENS, N.Y. - The No. 19/20 Marquette women's basketball team fell 57-56 at St. John's on Wednesday night in Queens.
Marquette (12-2, 1-2 BIG EAST) was led by Frannie Hottinger who had 15 points and six rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting. Hottinger was one of three Golden Eagles in double-figures for the game, joined by Liza Karlen (14) and Jordan King (11).
It was a back-and-forth battle in the first half. After being all knotted up at 14 after the first ten, Marquette trailed at halftime, 28-26, for just the second time this season.
The Golden Eagles had a run of seven-of-eight field goals made in the middle of the third quarter that built an eight-point lead. The run was highlighted by back-to-back 3's from Frannie Hottinger and Jordan King, followed by a basket plus the foul from King at the 1:56 mark.
Leading by four heading into the final frame, the Golden Eagles retook the lead with back-to-back buckets from Liza Karlen that made it 56-52 at the 2:51 mark. Marquette was held scoreless for the rest of the game and Unique Drake had five points the rest of the way to get the win by one.
The game saw 14 ties and seven lead changes.
The Red Storm (8-7, 2-1 BIG EAST) were led by Drake who had a game-high 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting.

- Marquette won the rebounding battle over St. John's 30-21, the 13th time this season MU outrebounded its opponent.
- Liza Karlen had her sixth-straight double-digit scoring performance with 14 points.
- Jordan King had a season-high six assists.
- Abbey Cracknell tied her career-high in points (4) and field goals made (2).
- Marquette returns home to host Xavier on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. CT.
