
WBB Suffers 73-54 Loss to No. 19 Villanova

Tough second quarter dooms Golden Eagles in road loss
VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania — The Marquette women's basketball team (14-8, 7-6 BIG EAST) suffered a road loss to No. 19 Villanova Wednesday evening at Finneran Pavilion, falling 73-54.
A poor second quarter doomed the Golden Eagles in this one, snapping a three-game win streak. After a back-and-forth first quarter which ended knotted up at 13-13, Villanova took control, using a 24-4 second quarter to open up a 20-point lead at the half.
While the remainder of the game was played closely, Marquette outscoring the Wildcats 37-36 in the second half, the Golden Eagles were unable to bounce back from the slump and played from behind the rest of the way.
MU senior guard Jordan King had another strong performance in the scoring column, leading the squad with 18 points. Senior forward Chloe Marotta also had a strong outing with 12 points and nine rebounds, while junior forward Liza Karlen went for eight points and five boards in her first game since Dec. 31, after missing the past seven contests with injury.
The Wildcats were led by Maddy Siegrist, who finished with a game-high 24 points.

Jordan King finished with team-high 18 points, her 18th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 61st of her career.

After missing the past seven games due to injury, Liza Karlen returned to action, coming off the bench for Marquette. Her layup at the 3:16 mark of the first quarter was her first bucket in 32 days.

Karlen finished with eight points and five rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Chloe Marotta fell just shy of a double-double, going for 12 points and nine rebounds, eight of her points coming from the free throw line. This was her 34th career double-figure scoring game, and the 17th of the year.

Marquette won a narrow rebounding battle, 39-38.

Marquette finished the game shooting 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the floor, 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from 3-point range and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line.

With the loss, Marquette falls to 18-14 all-time against Villanova, and has now lost four-straight in the series.
