Marquette Faced Spartans Early & Often  Â
  Â
Marquette and Michigan State have met 55 times (MSU leads 32-23) in the all-time series, with all but four of those matchups occurred prior to the conclusion of the 1956-57 campaign.
  Â
MU claimed the first meeting, 26-19, on Feb. 16, 1922 and the two programs would compete in a home-and-home series each season for the next 20 years.
  Â
The Spartans claimed a 74-69 win in the 1959 NCAA tournament regional semifinals and most recently in postseason action earned a 61-49 decision in the first round of the 2007 tourney in Winston-Salem, N.C. Â The last regular-season meeting resulted in a 79-68 MSU win on Nov. 28, 2014 in the Orlando Classic.
Marquette Sets Program Record With 29th Win  Â
  Â
Marquette's 78-61 victory over Vermont in Friday's opening round was not only its first NCAA tournament win since 2013 (lost in 2017, 2019 and 2022), it also set a program record for single-season win total.
  Â
The Golden Eagles are now 29-6 overall, surpassing the school's previous best mark of 28 (1970-71). Â Marquette finished 28-1 that season, falling only to No. 10 Ohio State, 60-59, in the NCAA regional semifinals in Atlanta.
