MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's tennis teams open their respective 2023-24 campaigns this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Â
The men's team will send six players to the Drake Invitational (Sept. 15-17) to compete in singles and doubles action. The women's team will travel to Minnesota for the Gopher invitational (Sept. 15-17) to compete in both singles and doubles action as well.
Â
"My new assistants and I are really looking forward to seeing how our players perform after a long break," interim director of tennis Jud Shaufler said. "We are obviously looking to learn a little more about our newcomers, but either way we will benefit from the opportunity to compete."
Â
The men's squad returns five letterwinners from last season, including sophomore Blake Roegner, who saw action in 18 dual matches last season. The men's team added three newcomers to this year's roster, including Cardinal Strict transfer Jasper Schaadt.
Â
Six letterwinners return from last year's women's team, including First Team All-BIG EAST honoree Emilija Kojcic. The roster also includes two transfers, sophomore Emma-Jane Barclay (Purdue), and junior Missouri State transfer Tiera Jarmond.
