NORTHFIELD, Illinois – The Marquette University men's golf team has four players under par through 36 holes in the 2023 Windon Memorial Classic at Sunset Ridge Country Club and is 10th out of 15 teams at 11-under par.
The Golden Eagles shot a 9-under 274 in the second round after rain affected the early portion on Monday's opening round in Northfield, Illinois.
Graduate students Aidan Lafferty (70-69—139), Bhoom Sima-Aree (72-67—139) and Josh Robinson (72-67—139) are all tied for 29th at 3-under par, while junior Max Lyons (68-72—140) is 2-under.
Lyons, playing as MU's No. 1, fired the team's best opening round with a 3-under 68 and was one of four Marquette players in the lineup with four birdies in the first 18 holes.
Sima-Aree and Robinson each carded five birdies in the second round and ended with identical 4-under 67s.
Marquette begins Tuesday's second round at Sunset Ridge on the 10th tee box with freshman Mason Schmidtke leading the way at 8:36 a.m. Central time.The Golden Eagles are paired with UC Davis and Notre Dame.
Will Hemauer, playing as an individual, is paired with Indiana's Robbie Bender and Northwestern's Archie Finnie at 8:09 a.m. CT on the 10th tee.

MU AT WINDON MEMORIAL CLASSIC
Former MU All-American Hunter Eichhorn claimed medalist honors at the event in 2019 after shooting a 6-under 207 at Conway Farms. The then-junior shot a 6-under 65 with eight birdies and a bogey-free 5-under 66 through the first two rounds. The Golden Eagles also won the Windon Memorial as a team back in 2018 behind a third-place finish from Oliver Farrell at 7-under par. In 2007 at Lake Shore, MU All-American Mike Van Sickle shared medalist honors with a 7-under 206.
Past winners and runners-up of the tournament include Tiger Woods, Casey Martin, Luke Donald, Hunter Mahan, Scott Harington and Ben Curtis.
THE COURSE
Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Illinois hosts the Windon Memorial Classic for the first time in 2023. The club was founded in 1923 and celebrated its 95th anniversary in 2018 by hosting the Western Amateur. In addition to that event, the club has played host to the 1935 Women's Western Open, the 1972 Western Open, and most recently, the 2022 Women's Western Amateur.
The course will play as a par 71 at a total of 6,754 yards.
