Golden Eagles set to open three-match homestand
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) will open a three-match homestand on Friday, September 29 as the team hosts St. John's (4-3-2, 0-1-1 BIG EAST) for a 7:05 p.m. CT BIG EAST matchup.Â
MU Takes 2-0 Victory Over Butler In Second BIG EASTÂ Match
The Golden Eagles earned their first BIG EAST victory of the season over Butler last Saturday in Indianapolis. Â
Marquette opened the match controlling the tempo and possession early and throughout the first half.

In the 23rd minute, Butler was attempting to clear possession in the box and tripped over the ball when Pare stole possession and scooped the ball over the Bulldogs' goalie to score.

In the 66th minute, Brooklyn Merl found the back of the net after Antonio Costabile broke up a throw-in pass by the Bulldogs that rolled to Merl, and he finished the play to tally his sixth goal of the season.

Marquette's back line held strong for the entirety of the match, not allowing Butler get any quality shots on goal in the second half. Ludvig Målberg recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season with two saves in the contest.
Marquette Offense Showing Striking Power Â
With 23 goals, MU strung together six-straight wins to open the season, with an offensive attack that ranks top-five in the NCAA DI. Â Â

The Golden Eagles have had no shortage of finding the back of the net this season, scoring a season high of six goals against Detroit Mercy. Ranking at the number four spot in NCAA DI goals scored (23), 11 different players have scored for Marquette this season.

Featuring depth in the scoring column, three players have scored two goals in three matches for the Golden Eagles. Graduate student Brooklyn Merl continues to anchor the Blue and Gold's attack as he has netted six goals this season. Â
Series History
The series history between Marquette and St. John's began during the 2005 campaign. Friday's matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Red Storm will be the 13th matchup  in program history for the two squads. MU soared over St. John's in the last contest with a 5-1 victory at Valley Fields in Milwaukee. Marquette holds a slight advantage over St. John's in the overall record (5-4-3).
