Golden Eagles go for season sweep over the Bulldogs
INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette women's basketball team travels to Butler on Saturday for the regular season finale. Tipoff from Hinkle Fieldhouse is at 2 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops.
STARTING FIVE
• In her fifth season at the helm of Marquette women's basketball, Coach Duffy has the best winning percentage of any coach in MU history, going 108-44 (.711) overall and 63-30 (.677) in BIG EAST play.
• MU is one of 14 schools to have two players on Naismith Starting 5 awards Top 10 lists (Jordan King & Liza Karlen).
• Rose Nkumu is 12th in the nation with a 2.76 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Liza Karlen has six double-doubles in the last nine games.
• Mackenzie Hare is 14th in the nation in 3-point percentage (43.7) and seventh in 3's made (83).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Butler is coming off a 73-70 win at DePaul on Wednesday night.
• The Bulldogs are fourth in the nation shooting 39.3 percent from 3-point range.
• Senior guard Caroline Strande leads the team in points, rebounds and assists.
• The Bulldogs were picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST preseason coaches' poll.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BUTLER
• Saturday's meeting will be the 31st all-time between Marquette and Butler, with MU leading the series, 21-9.
• MU is 18-4 against Butler since the Bulldogs have been in the BIG EAST.
FIRST MEETING THIS SEASON
• Marquette pulled away late to beat Butler, 59-48 on Saturday, Jan. 27.
• Golden Eagles were led by Liza Karlen, who had game-highs in points (25) and rebounds (11)
• Mackenzie Hare joined Karlen in double-figures with 19 on 4-of-8 shooting from deep.
• Marquette trailed at the half for just the fourth time, but used a 23-8 third quarter to regain the lead by nine heading into the fourth.
• Butler scored the first nine points of the final frame to tie the game, 48-48, that forced an • MU timeout at the 4:29 mark.
• The Golden Eagles went on an 11-0 run the rest of the game to get the win. Liza Karlen had nine of MU's final 11 points.
JORDAN AND LIZA ON ALL STAR WATCH LIST
• Jordan King and Liza Karlen were named to the 2024 Women's College All Star Game Watch List on Thursday, Feb. 29.
• The game will air on ESPN2 on Saturday, April 6 at 2:30 p.m. CT at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland.
• Terri Mitchell, recently inducted M Club Hall of Fame member and the winningest coach in Marquette women's basketball history will serve as Game Ambassador.
