Golden Eagles begin conference play on the road for third season in a row
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's lacrosse travels to UConn for the start of BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 30. Faceoff is at 11 a.m. CT from Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Connecticut.
The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with a live stats link available on GoMarquette.com.
Saturday will be the 12th meeting all-time between the two programs, with UConn leading the series 9-2. The Golden Eagles won last year's regular season matchup at Valley Fields, 12-9, on April 15, 2023.
LEIGH BIG EAST MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
• Leigh Steiner was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week for the second week in a row on Monday, March 25.
• Steiner Steiner posted five goals over two games this past weekend including a hat trick against No. 3 Michigan on Sunday.
• The senior captain also notched three draw controls against the Wolverines and two ground balls in the win over Central Michigan on Friday.
• This marks back-to-back BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week honors for Steiner and third-staight conference honor.
BIRELEY SECOND IN THE NCAA IN GOALS
• Meg Bireley is second in the nation with 46 goals on the season.
• The junior attacker is eighth in the NCAA averaging 4.18 goals per contest and fifth averaging 8.82 shots per game.
MEG 3X BIG EAST ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
• Meg Bireley has been named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week three times this season to lead the conference.
• Bireley leads the BIG EAST in goals (46), goals per game (4.18), points per game (4.55) and shots per game (8.82).
JOSIE BIG EAST LEADER
• Josie Kropp is first in the BIG EAST and ninth in the nation at 8.27 draw controls per game.
• The junior midfielder is fifth in the nation with 92 draw controls.
• Kropp had a single game record tying 17 draw controls at Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
DRAW DOMINATION
• Marquette is fifth in the nation in draw controls per game (17.64) and 25th in draw control percentage (56.7 percent).
MU AMONG NATION'S BEST ON OFFENSE
• Marquette is ninth in the NCAA in shots per game (34.18) and 31st in goals per game (13.64).
• The Golden Eagles are ninth in the nation in shots on goal per game (25.64).
NIXON SECOND ALL-TIME IN WINS
• Brynna Nixon moved into second all-time in wins in program history after Marquette's win over Eastern Michigan on Sunday, March 17.
• The junior goalkeeper is 20-11 in her career and third all-time in career saves with 250.
