MILWAUKEE – The No. 8/9 Marquette University men's basketball team fell to No. 2 UConn, 74-67, on Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum.
Junior guard Kam Jones led the Golden Eagles (22-8, 13-6 BIG EAST) with 18 points, while senior Oso Ighodaro added 16 points to become the 53rd player in Marquette history to reach 1,000 career points.
UConn (27-3, 17-2 BIG EAST) was led by forward Alex Karaban's 23 points. Guards Cam Spencer and Tristan Newton finished with 17 and 10 points, respectively. The Huskies shot 50 percent from three and hit 13 3-pointers, including seven in the opening half.
The Golden Eagles surrendered just one field goal, and four total points, to the Huskies over the final 7:54 of regulation. MU pulled within five points, 72-67, on a David Joplin layup with 56 seconds remaining before UConn freshman Stephon Castle sealed the game with two free throws for the game's final points.

- It is MU's sixth sellout of the season, the most since recording the same amount during 2018-19 in MU's first year at Fiserv Forum.
- Ighodaro surpassed 1,000 career points on a field goal with 4:32 remaining in the second half.
- It is the first time since 2007-08 that MU has had at least three players reach 1,000 career points in a single season (Dominic James, Wesley Matthews, Jerel McNeal). Lazar Hayward would later join that trio in 2008-09.
- Kam Jones moved to No. 33 on the MU all-time scoring list by passing four players on Wednesday (Oliver Lee, Anthony Pieper, Doc Rivers and Earl Tatum). Jones currently has 1,241 points in 96 career games and is 36 points behind Jimmy Butler in 32nd place.
- It was Ighodaro's sixth game this season with at least 16 points and eight rebounds and the ninth time he's done so in his career
- In the nine games since returning from injury against Georgetown on Feb. 3, Kam Jones is averaging 21.4 points per game and shooting 51.6% from 3-point range.
- MU guard Stevie Mitchell tied a career high with nine rebounds, including a game-best five offensive boards.
- MU guard Tre Norman finished with a career high nine points tonight along with two steals.
- UConn's 13 made 3-pointers are its second-highest total of the season (17 vs. Xavier on Jan. 28).
- Over 30 NBA scouts from 19 different teams requested credentials to attend Wednesday's game.
- UConn's Spencer scored his first career points as a true freshman with Loyola Maryland in an 88-53 Marquette win on Nov. 5, 2019. He scored four points in 11 minutes off the bench in that matchup.
