Robinson Paces Golf to Day One Lead at BIG EAST Championships

HARDEEVILLE, South Carolina - Graduate student Josh Robinson leads the field with a 4-under 68 after 18 holes of the 2024 BIG EAST Conference Men's Golf Championships Presented by JEEP on Saturday at Riverton Pointe Golf Club.Â
The Golden Eagles are also in pole position as a team, one stroke ahead of Seton Hall with a 3-over 291.
Robinson carded a round-high six birdies with three on both the front an back nine. The native of Lisburn, Northern Ireland was under par for his third round this spring, and the first since a 6-under 66 in the final round of the Johnnie-O at Sea Island on March 12. His lone blemish on Saturday was a double bogey on the par-4 ninth hole, where MU was a collective 4-over as a team with nothing under par.
Robinson's classmate Aidan Lafferty carded a 2-under 70 and is in a tie for third. Lafferty had five birdies on the day and recovered from early bogeys on Nos. 1 and 5.
Junior Max Lyons is tied for 13th at 2-over (74), while sophomore Will Hemauer and Mason Schmidtke notched 7-over 79s.
Lyons, Lafferty and Robinson lead the Golden Eagles into this week's conference championship as the three active MU golfers with previous BIG EAST tournament experience.

Marquette seeks its first repeat conference crown and its sixth BIG EAST team championship after securing the title in 2008, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023. The Golden Eagles won last year's event at Riverton Pointe and Bhoom Sima-Aree claimed medalist honors with a 3-under 213 (73-68-72).
The event's team champion and individual medalist earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Regional Championships on May 13-15. The NCAA will announce the tournament field for the 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Championships on Wednesday, May 1 on the GOLF Channel at 1 p.m. CT.
