David Korn earns first Golden Eagles win as head coach
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team (1-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) opened its 2024 campaign at home with a 2-0 win against Drexel (0-1-0, 0-0-0 CAA) Thursday evening at Valley Fields.
After a fast pace beginning, Marquette found the back of the net in the 12th minute after an unassisted goal from senior forward Abdoul Karim Pare.
15 minutes later, midfielder Mitchell Dryden found the back of the net coming off assists from Pare and junior midfielder Gabe Anguil.
The Golden Eagles finished the first half with a perfect percentage in shots on goal, scoring on both opportunities.
"Incredibly proud of this group, a lot of unknowns going into the match being our first match of the season, but I think we handled it well," head coach David Korn said. "I thought we had a number of guys who had great performances and I was really proud of us earning a shutout against a quality opponent in Drexel."
Drexel went into the second half aggressive with seven shots but weren't able to score on any opportunities. MU continued to keep pressure on the Dragons but were unable to find the net in the second half.
MU goalie Marten Brink notched his first career clean sheet with six saves, which helped Marquette tally its first win of the season.
