Golden Eagles open first road trip of the season at Yale Friday
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) travels to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Yale (0-0-0, 0-0-0 IVY) on Friday, August 30 at 5:00 p.m. CT at Reese Stadium.
The Golden Eagles will close out their two-match road stint as they take on the Wisconsin Badgers on Monday, September 2 at 7 p.m. CT at McClimon Track/Soccer Complex.
A Pair Of BIG EAST Weekly HonorsÂ
First-year junior midfielder Mitchell Dryden was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week for his performances in both matches against Drexel and Marist. Dryden scored one goal against Drexel in the 27th minute in his debut as a Golden Eagle.
Dryden followed Thursday's performance with a massive two-goal brace and one assist vs Marist on Sunday at Valley Fields.
Freshmen goalkeeper Marten Brink was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week for his performances in both matches against Drexel and Marist. Brink recorded a clean sheet in his career debut vs Drexel notching six saves. Against Marist, Brink recorded three saves, only allowing one goal coming off a penalty kick.
MU Soars Over Marist 6-1
The Golden Eagles closed their two-match opening homestand with a dominate 6-1 victory over Marist.
In the seventh minute freshman defender Jack Wandschneider knocked in a header off a corner kick.
In the 27th minute senior midfielder Justin Milovanov scored his first goal of the season. Mitar Mitrovic knocked in an unassisted goal to put the Golden Eagles up by three over the Red Foxes.
Marist scored their lone goal of the match during a penalty shot after a handball call in the box, but the Golden Eagles were able to respond as junior midfielder Mitchell Dryden found the back of the net.
Junior forward Lucas Nesthus notched his first goal of the season in the 85th minute, knocking in an assist from both Dryden and freshman midfielder Clayton Hamler.
Marquette's final goal of the match came in the 90th minute. Dryden knocked in his second of the game to give him his first career brace.
This Week's Matchups
Friday's match will be the second meeting between Marquette and Yale in program history. In 2022 Yale took the win over Marquette 3-2 in Milwaukee.
Monday's match against Wisconsin will be the 24th meeting between the two programs contest between the two programs. MU took the last meeting in Milwaukee with a 3-1 victory.
