Golden Eagles notch three-straight wins
NEW HAVEN, CT - The Marquette University men's soccer team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) opened a two-game road stint with a win at Yale (0-1-0, 0-0-0 IVY) Friday at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut.
The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs began the match trading possessions with both squads registering one shot on goal in the first 15 minutes.
In the 21st minute Justin Milovanov scored the game winning goal with a deep strike that sailed over the Bulldog's goalkeeper to give Marquette a 1-0 lead over Yale.
"Happy with the team's defensive performance as Yale is a well organized and well coached team who plays with great intensity," head coach David Korn said. "Really good experience for us to have to play with the lead and manage the game late. I'm looking for us to continue to build and grow from today in how to be disciplined and keep our competitive focus to win in different ways.
Â
Marquette and Yale fell into a midfield battle with Marquette controlling the possession for most of the second half.
The Bulldogs ramped up their pressure in the later stages of the second half, but MU's backline held strong not allowing Yale to find the back of the net.
Freshmen goalkeeper Marten Brink tallied four saves on his second-career shutout in three career starts.
