Golden Eagles look to stay undefeated at home this season
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team (3-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) takes on Purdue Fort Wayne (1-2-0, 0-0-0 HORIZON) on Thursday, September 5 at 2 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road for one match as they take on Northwestern on Monday, September 9 at 6 p.m. CT. In Evanston, Illinois.
MU Suffers first loss at #22 Wisconsin, 2-1
In a scoreless first half of soccer, the Golden Eagles registered four shots, two of which were just wide of the goal. The Badgers tallied four shots, with one of them being on goal.
In the 69th minute Abdoul Karim Pare was fouled in the box resulting in a MU penalty kick. Mitar Mitrovic found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
In the 71st minute the Badgers scored after a rebound from a prior shot on goal.
In the 86th minute Wisconsin finds the back of the net for the game winning goal after squeaking behind the MU backline to take the 2-1 advantage.
Golden Eagles Take 1-0 Win Over Yale
The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs began the match trading possessions with both squads registering one shot on goal in the first 15 minutes.
In the 21st minute Justin Milovanov scored the game winning goal with a deep strike that sailed over the Bulldog's goalkeeper to give Marquette a 1-0 lead over Yale.
The Bulldogs ramped up their pressure in the later stages of the second half, but MU's backline held strong not allowing Yale to find the back of the net.
Freshmen goalkeeper Marten Brink tallied four saves in his second-career shutout in three career starts.
Match History
Thursday's match will be the second meeting between Marquette and Purdue FW in program history. In 2023 MU took the win over the Mastodons 3-0 in Milwaukee.
Monday's match against Northwestern will be the third meeting between the two programs contest between the two programs. MU took the in the last meeting in 2016 with a 4-1 victory. The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two programs in 2012 with a 1-0 victory.
